Website Copy Audit & CRO Review

A website copy audit of your messaging, CTAs and proof, with a prioritised fix list and example rewrites.

Who it’s for

A good fit if…

  • Businesses with an existing site that isn't converting and want to know why before paying for a redesign.
  • Teams about to invest in paid traffic who want to fix copy and conversion issues first.
  • Founders who suspect their messaging is the problem but can't pinpoint exactly where visitors lose interest.

What you get

Deliverables

  • A page-by-page audit identifying unclear messaging, weak CTAs, and missing proof.
  • A prioritized list of fixes ranked by likely impact on conversion.
  • Specific rewrite suggestions for your highest-traffic or highest-intent pages.
  • A short summary document you can hand directly to a designer or developer.

What is a website copy audit?

A website copy audit is an expert review of the words on your website, checking whether they make it clear what you offer, who it's for, why visitors should trust you and what they should do next. You get a prioritised report showing what's stopping visitors from enquiring or buying, and exactly what to change, with example rewrites. It's the fastest way to find out why a site with traffic isn't converting, before you spend money on a redesign.

Who is a website copy audit for?

  • Businesses whose site gets traffic but few enquiries or sales
  • Teams planning a redesign who want the messaging right first
  • Founders who wrote their own copy and want an objective second opinion
  • Businesses about to spend more on ads and wanting their pages ready
  • Anyone whose site no longer reflects what they actually offer

What I check in an audit

Messaging

  • Is the headline clear about what you do and for whom?
  • Can a new visitor explain your offer after five seconds?
  • Is the copy specific, or could a competitor use it unchanged?

Trust and conversion

  • Is proof placed next to the claims it supports?
  • Are common objections answered on the page?
  • Is there one clear next step on each page?

Structure and readability

  • Can visitors scan the page and find what they need?
  • Does each page answer questions in the order buyers ask them?

Search basics

  • Do page titles and meta descriptions earn the click from Google?
  • Do pages link to each other in a way that helps visitors and search engines?

What the audit report includes

Section What you get
Summary The three to five changes that will make the biggest difference
Page-by-page notes What's working and what isn't on each page
Example rewrites Rewritten headlines and key sections for the main pages
Priority list Fixes ordered by impact and effort
Quick wins Changes you can make in an afternoon

Example finding (illustrative). "Your homepage headline, 'Innovative solutions for modern businesses', doesn't say what you do. Suggested rewrite: 'Bookkeeping for UK restaurants, done monthly, so you always know your margins.'"

How do you prioritise what to fix?

Start with the homepage hero and your most visited service or product pages, because they do the most persuading. Then pages receiving paid traffic, where weak copy wastes money every day. Then missing proof and unanswered objections, which are often quick to fix. The report puts these in order, so you know exactly where to start.

What happens after the audit?

You can apply the fixes yourself using the report and example rewrites, or have me rewrite the pages. Either way, I recommend checking results a few weeks after the changes go live, by comparing enquiries, conversion rates and Search Console data for the updated pages. That shows which changes made the biggest difference and where to focus next.

Common problems audits uncover

  • Headlines that describe the company instead of the customer
  • Service pages that list deliverables but never say who they're for
  • Testimonials buried on a separate page nobody visits
  • Contact forms with too many fields
  • Page titles that just repeat the business name

How much does a website copy audit cost?

A website copy audit starts from $199. Price depends on the number of pages and whether you want example rewrites for every section or just the key ones. You get a fixed quote before any work starts.

Run a quick self-check first with my website copy audit checklist, or see a website copy audit and refresh sample. When the audit shows bigger gaps, the website copy refresh package rewrites the key pages in one project.

FAQ

Questions about Website Copy Audit & CRO Review

What do I get from a website copy audit?

A written report of what's working, what's stopping visitors from enquiring or buying, and a prioritised list of fixes, with example rewrites for the most important sections.

Can I do a web copy audit myself?

Yes, for a first pass. Read each key page as a new visitor and check the headline, the offer, the proof and the next step. A free checklist helps; an outside reviewer is more useful when you're too close to the copy to see what's missing.

How many pages does the audit cover?

Usually the homepage and your most important service, product or landing pages. Larger audits covering the whole site are quoted separately.

Is a copy audit the same as a CRO audit?

They overlap. A copy audit focuses on the words: clarity, persuasion, structure and proof. I also flag obvious design and flow issues that affect conversion.

Should I do an audit before a redesign?

Yes, ideally. An audit tells your designer what each page needs to say, which makes the redesign faster and better.

Can you rewrite the pages after the audit?

Yes. Many clients follow the audit with the website copy refresh package, which rewrites the key pages based on the findings.

Have a page, an email flow or a document that isn’t working yet?

Send a short brief. You’ll get a reply from me, not an account manager, with a recommended scope, a fixed quote and a delivery date.
