Ecommerce Copywriting
Shopify homepage copy, product descriptions, category pages, offer messaging, and conversion-focused store copy.
Who it’s for
A good fit if…
- Shopify and WooCommerce store owners who need product and category copy that converts browsers into buyers.
- DTC, fashion, beauty, and lifestyle brands preparing for a seasonal launch, restock, or catalog expansion.
- Stores with dozens of product pages that currently read like spec sheets instead of sales copy.
What you get
Deliverables
- Product descriptions written around buyer benefits, not just specs, with consistent tone across the catalog.
- Category and collection page copy that supports both browsing and search visibility.
- Offer and promotion messaging for sales, bundles, or seasonal campaigns.
- One revision round to match your brand voice and platform (Shopify, WooCommerce, or other).
What is ecommerce copywriting?
Ecommerce copywriting is the writing that helps an online store sell: product descriptions, collection and category pages, the homepage, and the small bits of text around checkout, shipping and returns. It has two jobs at once. It has to make a product easy to picture and want, and it has to answer the practical doubts (fit, quality, delivery, returns) that stop people adding to cart.
When does a store need better copy?
- Product pages get visits but few add-to-carts
- Descriptions are copied from the manufacturer, so they're identical to competitors' and don't rank
- You're launching new products or a new collection
- Customers keep emailing the same questions that the page should answer
- Your brand has a clear personality, but the store reads like a spec sheet
How I write product descriptions that sell
Lead with the reason people buy
Every product has one main reason it gets bought, often not the one listed first in the specifications. I find it in your reviews and customer questions and put it at the top.
Make specifics do the persuading
"High-quality materials" means nothing. "Full-grain leather that softens with use" is something a shopper can picture.
Example (illustrative). Before: "This stylish water bottle is perfect for everyday use and keeps drinks cold." After: "Ice still rattling at 5pm. Double-wall steel keeps drinks cold for 24 hours, and the leak-proof lid means it can go in your bag on its side."
Answer the hesitation on the page
Sizing, care, delivery times and returns belong near the buy button, not hidden in an FAQ page nobody opens.
Make it scannable
Most shoppers skim. A short opening, a few benefit-led bullet points and clear specifications work better than one long paragraph.
What pages does ecommerce copywriting include?
| Page | What good copy does there |
|---|---|
| Product pages | Turns features into reasons to buy and answers doubts |
| Collection pages | Helps shoppers choose, and helps the page rank |
| Homepage | Shows what the store sells and why to buy from you |
| About page | Builds trust in a brand people don't know yet |
| Shipping and returns | Removes the last reason not to order |
How does ecommerce copy help SEO?
Product and collection pages are often the pages that rank for buying searches, such as "linen shirt for men" or "leak-proof water bottle". Copy helps in three ways. Unique descriptions avoid the duplicate content problem that comes with manufacturer text. Collection page introductions give Google context about what the category contains. And answering common questions on the page matches the longer, question-style searches shoppers type, which are often easier to rank for.
I research the terms people use for your products and work them in naturally, so the copy reads well for shoppers first.
Common ecommerce copy problems I fix
- Manufacturer descriptions duplicated across the web
- Feature lists with no explanation of what they mean in use
- Brand voice that changes from page to page
- No sizing or fit guidance on clothing and footwear
- Collection pages with no text at all, which makes them hard to rank
How much does ecommerce copywriting cost?
Ecommerce copywriting starts from $149. Price depends on the number of products and pages, how much each product differs, and whether you need SEO research for collection pages. Large catalogues are quoted per batch. You get a fixed quote before any work starts.
My guide on how to write product descriptions that sell explains the approach in more detail, and you can read a full product description sample for an ecommerce store. Once your pages are selling, Klaviyo email copywriting brings shoppers back.
How it works
From brief to finished copy
1
Brief
You share your product catalog, brand tone, target customer, and any existing copy.
2
Research
I review your competitors and the objections customers raise before buying.
3
Draft
You receive product or page copy in a format ready to paste into your store.
4
Refine
I adjust based on your feedback and finalize wording for consistency across pages.

Do you write product descriptions for Shopify stores?
Yes. I write product descriptions, collection pages and homepage copy for Shopify and other ecommerce platforms, formatted so you can paste them straight in.
How many product descriptions can you write at once?
Anything from a handful of hero products to a full catalogue. For large catalogues I usually write a set of templates and examples per product type, then scale them consistently.
Will product descriptions help my SEO?
They can. Unique descriptions that use the words shoppers search for, and answer their questions, help product and collection pages rank. Copying the manufacturer's description does the opposite.
Can you write in my brand's voice?
Yes. Send me your best-performing pages, social posts or emails and I'll match the tone, then we adjust after the first few descriptions.
What information do you need about each product?
Specifications, materials, sizing, the main reason people buy it, common questions or complaints, and any reviews. The more real detail, the less generic the copy.
